The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced that treatment for Halil Umut Meler, who was injured, will begin after the examinations to be conducted today. Meler had officiated the UEFA Nations League Play-Off match between the Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria on Sunday, March 23. However, he felt a sudden pain in his left calf in the 37th minute and was unable to continue the match.

In a statement from the TFF, it was said, "Our FIFA-licensed referee Halil Umut Meler suffered an injury during the UEFA Nations League Play-Off second leg match played on Sunday, March 23, between the Republic of Ireland and Bulgaria. In the 37th minute of the match, Meler experienced sudden pain and a stabbing sensation in his left calf, and after struggling to walk, he could not continue the match and handed over his duties to the fourth official Mehmet Türkmen, who joined the FIFA referee roster in 2025."
