Houthis in Yemen announced they have launched a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. The Houthis stated they took the blockade decision as retaliation for the siege and restrictions imposed on Yemen.
THEY ANNOUNCED THEY HAVE STARTED A NAVAL BLOCKADE
Houthis in Yemen declared they have begun a naval blockade against Saudi Arabia in the Red Sea. Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree announced in a televised statement that the naval blockade against Saudi Arabia is "immediately effective."
Saree cited as justification for the blockade the siege he claims Saudi Arabia has imposed on the Yemeni people for nearly 12 years, as well as restrictions on Yemeni ports and airports.
"AN EYE FOR AN EYE, A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH"
The statement noted that the decision was a retaliation taken with an "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" approach, and indicated that similar responses would continue if Saudi Arabia's practices against Yemen persist.
The Houthis' decision came following accusations last week that an airport under the organization's control was bombed by Saudi Arabia, and after they announced they had carried out missile attacks on Saudi Arabia.
