While reactions were coming in response to actor Engin Altan Düzyatan representing Turkey at the United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held in Azerbaijan, the Climate Change Presidency made a statement regarding the issue. The statement said, "The selected members fully reflect the preferences of the COP29 Presidency."
The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) Conference of the Parties, which will be held in Azerbaijan, will be represented by actor Engin Altan Düzyatan, according to the Presidency of Climate Change. The statement said, "The selected members fully reflect the preferences of the COP29 Presidency."
ENGİN ALTAN TO REPRESENT TURKEY AT UN SUMMIT
The 29th session of the United Nations Climate Summit will be held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan. Scientists and politicians from every country will attend the summit, which will take place from November 11 to 24, 2024. Engin Altan Düzyatan, who has shown successful performances in the Trash Man and Resurrection Ertuğrul series, will also be among those representing Turkey.
STATEMENT FROM THE PRESIDENCY OF CLIMATE CHANGE
While reactions were received to Düzyatan's representation of Turkey at the summit, the Presidency of Climate Change made a statement on the matter. In the statement made from the Presidency's social media account, it was stated that Turkey is represented by an "officially authorized negotiating team" with the participation of relevant ministries such as Foreign Affairs, Energy and Natural Resources, Treasury and Finance, Agriculture and Forestry, Industry and Technology, and Trade Ministries, within the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and under the coordination of the Presidency of Climate Change, in the official decision-making sessions of COP meetings, on issues such as "reduction of greenhouse gases," "adaptation to climate change," and "climate finance."
"THE SELECTED MEMBERS REFLECT THE PREFERENCES OF COP29"
In the statement, it was stated that an international advisory committee (IAC) was established in July by the COP29 Azerbaijan Presidency, and it was stated: "The committee is informal in nature and is established at the discretion of the COP Presidency, and the committee members are unilaterally determined by the COP Presidency. The committee, which has no official status, aims to represent the voices of climate advocates from various sectors of society such as finance, government, art, academia, entrepreneurship, and civil society, and holds advisory meetings. We have no involvement in the process of determining the members of the delegation established by the COP29 Presidency for the year 2024. The selected members fully reflect the preferences of the COP29 Presidency.
As in previous years, our expert and authorized negotiation team, who are experts in their fields, continue their preparations to follow all the official sessions of the conference at COP29, and the process is carried out under the coordination of the Presidency of Climate Change."
