It was reported that serious disruptions in air transport occurred in Russia due to a large-scale unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack. While restrictions were imposed on flights across the country for security reasons, many passengers were stranded at airports. As uncertainty continues over when flights will resume, crowding formed at terminals.
MAJOR CROWDING AT AIRPORTS
Passengers who had to wait at airports due to flight restrictions complained about conditions in the terminals. In particular, the stuffy environment, long queues forming in front of toilets, and lack of information about flight times caused passengers' reaction.
Passengers noted that they did not know when they would be able to travel, drawing attention to the uncertainty they experienced.
HAS BEEN WAITING FOR HER FLIGHT FOR 30 HOURS
One of the statements revealing the scale of the disruption came from a passenger who wanted to go to Tyumen. The female passenger said she had been waiting for her flight for exactly 30 hours and described the hardship she experienced.
It was reported that crowding at airports increased due to the long wait, and passengers were waiting for flights to resume.
FLIGHTS HALTED AT FOUR MOSCOW AIRPORTS
During the attack on October 16, flights were reportedly temporarily halted at Moscow's Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky and Sheremetyevo airports. While some aircraft were redirected to alternative airports, civil flight traffic was disrupted across a large part of the airspace.
Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency announced that the restrictions were imposed to ensure flight safety. In the morning hours, restrictions were lifted at some airports, while new measures were introduced in different regions.
