The 9 lira 30 kuruş increase in autogas was reflected in pump prices. After the increase, the per-liter price of LPG rose to 50 lira 50 kuruş in Istanbul and Izmir, 50 lira 29 kuruş in Ankara, and 52 lira in the eastern provinces. With the new prices, the fuel cost per kilometer for LPG-powered vehicles increased, while the savings advantage of autogas over gasoline decreased.
The 9 lira 30 kuruş increase in autogas was reflected in pump prices. With the new prices, the price per liter of autogas rose to 50 lira 50 kuruş in Istanbul, 50 lira 29 kuruş in Ankara, and 50 lira 50 kuruş in Izmir. In the eastern provinces, the price per liter reached 52 lira.
With the latest increase, the cost advantage autogas provides compared to gasoline and diesel also narrowed. In particular, the fuel expenses of drivers who use LPG in their vehicles increased significantly.
FUEL COST PER KILOMETER EXCEEDED 5 LIRA
The rise in autogas prices also increased fuel costs per kilometer. In cities with heavy traffic such as Istanbul, the fuel cost of a vehicle consuming an average of 10 liters of LPG per 100 kilometers in winter months reached 505 lira per 100 kilometers with the new prices. Thus, the cost per kilometer became approximately 5 lira 5 kuruş.
Under the same conditions, the fuel cost per kilometer of a car consuming an average of 8 liters of gasoline per 100 kilometers is around 6 lira 50 kuruş.
THE COST ADVANTAGE OF LPG IS DECREASING
Autogas has been among drivers' preferences for many years because it offers lower fuel costs compared to gasoline. However, with recent increases, the savings rate provided by LPG-powered vehicles has also decreased.
The fee paid for the LPG conversion kit, restrictions experienced when entering some indoor parking lots, and technical modifications made to vehicles are also among the factors affecting the total cost of use. Nevertheless, autogas-powered vehicles continue to be more economical than gasoline-powered vehicles in terms of fuel expenses per kilometer.
