Fatma Nur Çelik, who lost her life in a knife attack by a student in Çekmeköy, Istanbul, was bid farewell on her final journey amid the tears of her family, loved ones, and students. Hundreds of teachers and citizens chanted, "We do not want to die at school."
Fatma Nur Özçelik (44), who was fatally attacked with a knife by F.S.B. (17), a student of Çekmeköy Borsa İstanbul Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School, was laid to rest today in a ceremony filled with tears.
RELATIVES STRUGGLED TO STAND
Hundreds of Özçelik's students, colleagues, and loved ones attended the ceremony, while her relatives, who embraced Fatma Nur's coffin, struggled to stand. In response to the horror experienced, hundreds of teachers and citizens protested for a long time with the slogan, "We do not want to die at school."
"OUR PROPOSAL TO INCREASE PENALTIES IS IN THE GRAND NATIONAL ASSEMBLY"
Speaking about the incident, Deputy Minister of National Education Nazif Yılmaz emphasized that all sanctions related to the issue would be implemented decisively and stated:
"We are saddened by the loss of a very valuable colleague who dedicated her life to being beneficial to society and humanity. Of course, legal measures are being taken, and work related to these is always carried out under the leadership of our Ministry. Our proposal to increase the penalties for crimes against teachers, including threats, insults, and any acts that could endanger life, is in the Grand National Assembly. Similarly, disciplinary penalties in our schools will also be intensified. I pray for our teacher's soul."
HUNDREDS GATHERED IN THE SCHOOL YARD
In the drone footage, moments were captured showing hundreds of people gathered in an orderly manner in the school yard, leaving flowers at the area featuring the teacher's photo. Meanwhile, the high turnout at the memorial ceremony drew attention.
