Hungary's newly appointed Prime Minister Peter Magyar has taken a clear stance regarding the International Criminal Court's decision concerning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Magyar stated that his country will adhere to its international obligations and announced that an arrest warrant would be enforced if Netanyahu were to come to Hungary.

The new Prime Minister of Hungary, Peter Magyar, made a notable statement regarding the arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Magyar pledged that they would implement the court's decision and take the necessary steps if Netanyahu were to enter Hungary.

“WE WILL STICK TO INTERNATIONAL LAW"

With his assumption of office, Magyar opened a new chapter in foreign policy, stating that they would strengthen their country's relations with the ICC. Emphasizing that Hungary would adhere to international law, Magyar expressed that the implementation of court decisions is a state obligation.

A DIFFERENT APPROACH FROM THE ORBAN ERA

The previous Prime Minister Viktor Orban's administration had declared that it would not recognize the arrest warrant issued for Netanyahu and had initiated the process of withdrawing from the ICC. Magyar's statements indicated that this policy would be reversed.

THE INVITATION DEBATE IS ON THE AGENDA

On the other hand, claims that Magyar invited Netanyahu to the country have also sparked controversy. Experts assess that if such a visit were to take place, Hungary would face a critical test between its international obligations and political preferences.

Magyar's statement is interpreted as Hungary entering a process of re-alignment with the European Union and international legal institutions.

ARREST WARRANT DUE TO WAR CRIME CHARGES

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant on November 21, 2024, for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant on charges of committing "war crimes."
