In Antalya, 26 of the 35 defendants tried in the case of the criminal organization known as 'The Daltons' were sentenced to prison terms ranging from 5 years 8 months to 32 years 1 month.
In the closed hearing held at the Regional Court of Justice conference hall by the Antalya 3rd Heavy Penal Court, spectators and press members were not admitted.
22 DEFENDANTS SENTENCED TO UP TO 32 YEARS IN PRISON
The court panel sentenced 22 defendants over the age of 18 to prison terms ranging from 6 years to 32 years and 1 month for the crimes of "being a member of an organization established to commit crimes," "intentional wounding with a weapon with possible intent," "aggravated robbery," "threat with a weapon," "damaging property," "depriving a person of liberty through force or threat," and "purchasing or possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition." While the pretrial detention of 14 defendants was ordered to continue, 6 individuals were released, and the arrest of 1 individual was ordered.
The court also acquitted 8 individuals. The court panel sentenced 4 out of 5 defendants under the age of 18 to prison terms ranging from 5 years and 8 months to 30 years and 5 months for the same crimes. The panel ordered the release of 2 defendants and acquitted 1 defendant.
INDICTMENT
In the indictment describing the emergence process and structure of the criminal organization, it was stated that the fugitive leader of the organization, Beratcan Gökdemir, assigned different individuals in different fields of the criminal organization to "manager" positions in order to continue the organization's activities in Turkey.
In the indictment, it was noted that defendant Gökhan D. acted as the leader of the armed criminal organization in Antalya. The indictment, which detailed that the criminal organization known as the "Daltons" carried out organizational actions in many cities, especially major cities such as Istanbul, Izmir, and Antalya, reported that members of the criminal organization were found to have committed numerous crimes including shooting at workplaces, threatening with weapons, aggravated robbery, wounding, and killing.
The indictment described that the criminal organization committed the crimes of "aggravated robbery," "attempted premeditated murder," "shooting at a workplace," and "threatening by using the intimidating power of the existing organization" throughout Antalya.
The indictment, which reported that numerous operations were carried out against suspects involved in the incidents, including minors under 18, provided information that in these operations, 2 hand grenades, 34 unlicensed pistols, 5 shotguns, 972 pistol cartridges, 882 shotgun cartridges, 3 ballistic vests, knuckle dusters, and 32 magazines were seized.
In the indictment, which stated that the leadership and management cadre of the organization abroad, through their ability to recruit members via social media platforms, led the "Daltons" to restructure in the city in a short time, it was expressed that the new "hitman group" that came to Antalya demanded money under the name "right of the street" and carried out 14 actions.
In the indictment, it was reported that members of the criminal organization called some auto galleries and entertainment venues via video, saying "we have fined you," and robbed between 5 and 20 million lira, and shot at the workplaces of those who did not pay.
CONTACTING ORGANIZATION MEMBERS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA
In the indictment, which pointed out that the fugitive defendant Bünyamin Y. had 115 thousand followers on his social media account, the following statements were included:
"It has been determined that due to the senior cadre of the organization fleeing and living abroad because of the crimes they committed, in order to continue their organizational activities in the country, they contacted individuals with high crime potential locally who use social media platforms, supported these individuals, turned them into local representatives of the organization, and ensured they managed organizational activities and carried out actions. It was understood that a significant portion of the defendants earned their livelihood through this organizational structure and lived a luxurious life above their living standards with the income obtained from crime."
In the indictment, it was stated that the fugitive Bünyamin Y. is being sought with a "red notice" regarding the actions he carried out in Antalya as a criminal organization manager.
In the indictment, which noted that sufficient evidence was obtained that the defendant organization members carried out organizational actions, it was demanded that the defendants be punished for the crimes of "robbery committed jointly by using weapons and the intimidating power of the organization and for the benefit of the criminal organization," "purchasing, transporting, and possessing unlicensed firearms and ammunition," "damaging property," "unauthorized possession of dangerous substances," "premeditated murder," "threat with a weapon," "depriving a person of liberty by using force, threat, or deception," "intentional wounding," and "threatening by using the names of criminal organizations."
