In Armenia, 6 people, including former President Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak Kocharyan, were detained in a corruption investigation over the alleged illegal transfer of state assets. Kocharyan has been charged with abuse of power, bribery, and money laundering.

Six people, including former President Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak Kocharyan, were detained in Armenia as part of a corruption investigation. Officials stated that the investigation is being conducted over allegations that state assets were illegally transferred below market value.

ALLEGATION OF ILLEGAL TRANSFER OF STATE ASSETS

In a statement made by Armenia's Anti-Corruption Committee, it was noted that concrete evidence was found indicating that during Kocharyan's term in office between 1998 and 2008, he used his official position to facilitate the transfer of certain state assets to himself and his relatives below market value.

The investigation alleged that attempts were made to conceal the true ownership of the assets in question and the source of income claimed to have been derived from criminal activity.

KOCHARYAN AND HIS SON ALSO DETAINED

Within the scope of the investigation, former President Robert Kocharyan and his son Sedrak Kocharyan, as well as 4 other individuals stated to have been involved in the alleged criminal schemes, were detained.

According to Armenia's Prosecutor General's Office, 71-year-old Kocharyan faces charges of abuse of power, bribery, and money laundering.
