In the Arhavi district of Artvin, neighborhood youths built a wooden shack they named Martıevi on top of a rock about 8 meters high in the sea so they could play the tulum and have fun without disturbing anyone. The structure, whose materials were carried piece by piece by boat, has no road connection, and is reached by a ladder, became a center of attention with its Black Sea view.

ACCESSIBLE ONLY BY BOAT
The wooden shack built on the approximately 8-meter-high rock in the sea in the Liman area of Hacılar Neighborhood in Arhavi district of Artvin attracts interest with its extraordinary location. Seagull House, which has no road connection and can only be reached by boat, is used as a meeting point where Black Sea culture is kept alive with the sounds of the tulum.
The shack, about 20 meters from the shore and 200 meters from the harbor, was built with the idea of creating an area where young people in the neighborhood can come together and spend time. While the materials used in its construction were carried piece by piece by boat, a ladder was installed to climb to the wooden structure on the rock.
The shack, which the young people named “Seagull House,” hosts those who want to play the tulum and have fun accompanied by the endless sea view and the sound of waves. The structure, which draws attention with its location in the middle of the sea, also stands out because it emerged from the idea of making music without disturbing those around.
IT BECAME A MEETING POINT FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
Serkan Ergin, who explained the construction process and purpose of Seagull House, said, “This place was built with the idea of creating a place where young people can play the tulum and have fun without disturbing anyone. This shack, which we named Seagull House, is located on a rock about 200 meters from the shore. Since there is no road connection, all the materials used in its construction were carried one by one by boat.
Now we come and go here by boat. After reaching the rock, we climb to the shack by ladder. Here we gather with our friends, play the tulum, have fun, and enjoy the unique view of the Black Sea. It is a unique place intertwined with the sea. Over time, Seagull House has become both our meeting point and one of the notable places in Arhavi.”
