It was alleged that a male staff member working in the Emergency Surgery Department of Istanbul Faculty of Medicine secretly recorded female employees in the restroom.
According to Güldane Çelik, representative of the Health and Social Service Workers' Union (SES), the suspect would enter after female employees went into the restroom, extend his phone under or over the cubicle partitions, and take photos.
The incident, which is said to have continued for about 8 months, came to light when a nurse noticed the situation.
NUMEROUS IMAGES FOUND ON HIS PHONE
The nurse who checked the suspect's phone found images of herself and other female employees. Following this, after a complaint was filed, the suspect was arrested.
REACTION TO HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT
SES representative Güldane Çelik criticized the working conditions at the hospital and the inadequacy of areas protecting staff privacy after the incident.
Çelik, arguing that hospital management also bears responsibility, said, “The administration and hospital management that fail to provide employees with a safe working environment suitable for privacy bear responsibility.”
