The water that emerged during drilling operations about 50 years ago in the Aziziye district of Erzurum and continues to surface today draws attention with its extraordinary properties. While the foam forming on the surface of the yellowish water burns with a blue flame upon contact with fire, local residents say that in the past, the water was used for various skin conditions and rheumatic pain.
The water emerging from underground and surfacing in an area of approximately 3 square meters in the Kahramanlar Neighborhood of the Aziziye district of Erzurum draws attention with its extraordinary features.
IT APPEARED 50 YEARS AGO: ITS FOAM IGNITES WITH FLAMES
The water, which is stated to have been discovered during drilling operations about 50 years ago, attracts the interest of onlookers with its yellowish color and the foam forming on its surface burning with a blue flame upon contact with fire.
It is stated that the temperature of the water, which continues to boil from the well approximately half a meter deep, is no different from normal tap water and is not hot water. The well, which was stated to be unsuitable for drinking water and was closed in the past due to gas emissions, continues to bring water to the surface from the bottom point even after being filled. The foam and gas bubbles forming on the surface of the water burning with a blue flame upon contact with fire arouses curiosity.
IT IS GOOD FOR SKIN DISORDERS AND RHEUMATISM PAINS
While the residents of the neighborhood state that they feel a softness in their hands and feet when they touch the water, it is stated that in the past, the water was used against heel cracks, various skin disorders, and rheumatism pains. However, it is stated that no scientific research or analysis has been conducted on this water to date.

İsmail Çakmak, who came to see the boiling water with his children, stated that the water has different properties from other waters, saying, "When we observe this water, we see that it has a yellowish color. In this respect, it differs from other waters. Also, when we touch it, we feel a significant softness. There must definitely be a scientific explanation for this. When we touch the foam on it with fire, we observe that the foam burns even though it is in contact with water. According to what our elders told us, it is also said that those with heel cracks used to come here and find healing by touching their feet to the water."

76-year-old Ağa Alp Oğuz, a resident of Kahramanlar Neighborhood, stating that more than 50 years have passed since the place where the boiling water emerges was opened, said that the well was opened during drilling operations in the past, saying, "They drilled here, but I don't know if they brought out drinking water or for irrigating the land. Since it came out like that, they closed it. Since then, it has been boiling in this state. They closed it, I mean, it is full. It went down, I estimate, more than 70-80 meters. They closed it like that, and here it is, it moves in this state. When you wash, your hands and feet soften. It's soft, just like soapwort. This foam burns, producing a blue flame. They said it couldn't be drinking water. It's still like this; they closed it and left. Even after filling it, it keeps boiling. It may have been boiling for more than 50 years. I say I was born in 1950, and it's been more than 50 years, I mean. I am 76 years old; I was 10 years old when this came out. It was harvest time when they brought it out, threshing time. Such water came out of here that it would flow all the way into the village. Now, its depth was, I estimate, more than 80 meters, but it's full now. It's only about half a meter. They filled it in to close the well."
