The number of cities under partial curfew has risen to 12 after the Yellow Vests protests in France, which began against the high cost of living and high fuel prices and turned into violence and looting. While curfews imposed at night in many cities, especially Paris, Lyon, Lille and Nice, have been extended, it was reported that approximately 2,500 people were detained in the demonstrations, more than 1,000 security and fire service personnel were injured, and around 3,000 businesses were damaged.

Following the protests by the yellow vests, which saw incidents of violence and looting in France, it was decided that the partial curfew imposed yesterday in certain areas of Paris, Lyon, Lille, and Nice would also continue today.

The Paris Police Department extended by 1 day the partial curfew that was in effect yesterday around Republic Square and the Halles sector in Paris. City residents are banned from being at the said points of the capital between 23:00 and 06:00 local time.

In Paris, a ban was also imposed on holding unauthorized demonstrations between 20:00 and 06:00 local time around the Elysee Palace, the National Assembly, the Senate, the Champs-Elysees, and Chatelet and Vendome Squares, as well as around some railway stations.

NUMBER OF CITIES UNDER BAN RISES TO 12

According to a statement from the Rhone Governor's Office, the curfew imposed yesterday in central Lyon contributed to ensuring calm in the city. It was decided to impose a curfew in central Lyon for 1 more day between 21:00 and 06:00 local time.

It was learned that the total number of cities nationwide where a partial curfew decision has been taken has risen to 12.

It was announced yesterday that a curfew would be imposed during the night in certain areas of Paris, Lyon, Lille, Nice, Douai, and Wattignies in France.

PROTESTS IN FRANCE

The yellow vests, also supported by students, held demonstrations across the country on October 17 against the high cost of living and high fuel prices.

During the demonstrations, approximately 2,500 people were detained, while more than 1,000 police officers, gendarmerie soldiers, and firefighters were injured.

In the demonstrations where violent incidents occurred, approximately 3,000 workplaces were damaged or looted.

The Limoges City Hall and the tourism office in Lyon were set on fire, and in Marseille protesters damaged the city hall.

Those whose workplaces were damaged in the protests reacted to the government on the grounds that it could not manage the crisis.

Local authorities had decided to impose partial curfews in some regions, especially Paris, Lille, Lyon, and Nice, to prevent possible protests.
