The supercell storm in Gaziantep left behind not only material damage but also terrifying images that will never be erased from memory. Those moments, captured by amateur cameras and rivaling horror movies, revealed the destructive power of nature in all its nakedness.
A 'supercell' storm affected the entire Gaziantep region after noon yesterday. The sudden storm nearly paralyzed life in many parts of the city.
23 PEOPLE INJURED
As trees fell and stream beds overflowed, water accumulated in many areas, and the roof and stands of the Turkish Olympic Preparation Center building, affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of Youth and Sports, collapsed. Due to the overflow of stream beds and adverse weather conditions, 23 people were injured in accidents.
FOOTAGE RIVALED HORROR MOVIES
Meanwhile, footage of moments when humanity was helpless against the power of nature rivaled horror movies. The images showed giant supercell clouds engulfing the city in darkness, followed by a tornado that swept away everything in its path. Those terrifying moments, when roofs flew off and vehicles were tossed like paper, were captured second by second on cameras.
