After a rabies case in the Samandağ district of Hatay, the neighborhoods of Tekebaşı, Meydan, Gözene, and Çöğürlü have been quarantined. Residents of the four neighborhoods are experiencing anxiety about going outside due to stray dogs. One resident stated, "We see dogs every three steps. We want to walk on the beach, but we can't because we're afraid of being attacked by the dogs."
After rabies symptoms were observed in a stray dog in the Tekebaşı neighborhood of Samandağ district in Hatay, samples were taken by teams that arrived in the area. The analysis of the sample sent to the Adana Veterinary Control Research Institute Laboratory confirmed the presence of rabies.
RABIES QUARANTINE IN 4 NEIGHBORHOODS
As a result, the Tekebaşı, Meydan, Gözene, and Çöğürlü neighborhoods were quarantined by the decision of the Samandağ District Animal Health Board, and entry and exit of animals to the area were prohibited. While the teams from the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry continue vaccination efforts in the region, residents expressed that they are anxious and scared due to the large number of dogs.

Kader Tokmak expressed that they cannot walk because they are afraid of dog attacks, saying, "We learned about the rabies case from social media. Recently, dogs have become widespread. We see dogs every 3 steps. We want to walk on the beach, but we cannot because we are afraid of dog attacks. Three months ago, a dog bit my 70-year-old mother's leg. The neighborhood was quarantined, and that scares us. We want the authorities to take their precautions. If animals are to be collected or vaccinated, they should do that. They should take measures against rabies. Because we are scared," she said.

Behçet Arslan, who stated that he is anxious due to the rabies case in the neighborhood, said, "There is a rabies case in the neighborhood. We are worried and anxious for small children. We are afraid of rabid dogs. Municipalities need to collect the dogs. There are many dogs here," he said.

Nedim Doğru expressed that they are experiencing anxiety after the rabies case that emerged in the region, requesting a solution from the authorities regarding the dogs, saying, "There are many dogs seen in our neighborhood. There are many dogs everywhere in every street of the neighborhood. I heard that there is a rabies case. We are anxious due to the rabies incident. We close the doors at home because of the dogs. We are scared, and the children are anxious too. We want the authorities to take care of the dogs," he stated.
