A sudden fight between two giant elephants caused a horrific tragedy at the Dubare Elephant Camp in Karnataka, India, while tourists were watching an elephant washing session in the river. During the massive panic and chaos at the riverside, a temporary viewing platform collapsed. In the terrible incident, a 33-year-old tourist died after being trapped under the debris.

Horrifying moments unfolded before the eyes of tourists at the famous Dubare Elephant Camp in Karnataka, India. During a traditional elephant washing session by the river, two elephants suddenly attacked each other. The moments were recorded second by second on a visitor's mobile phone camera.

THE RIVER TURNED INTO A BATTLEFIELD IN AN INSTANT 

The footage shows a calm scene with many elephants bathing in the river and dozens of tourists right next to them. However, suddenly two of the massive elephants became aggressive and lunged at each other. An elephant with its mahout on top began attacking another elephant lying by the riverbank, striking it hard with its tusks.

THE CROWD EXPERIENCED GREAT PANIC 

At that moment, the crowd, which was closely interacting with and watching the elephants right on the riverbank, began to flee in great fear. The footage captured on camera showed people screaming and running around in panic, trampling each other as they tried to get out of the water. 

The moment a staff member grabbed a little girl who had fallen by the riverbank and tried to carry her away at the last second revealed the extent of the danger.

ONE TOURIST LOST HIS LIFE 

According to information obtained from authorities, the relentless struggle of the giant animals and their thrashing around caused major chaos on the platforms by the river. During the ensuing scuffle and panic, a temporary structure on which visitors were standing collapsed. A 33-year-old tourist was trapped under the debris, seriously injured, and despite all interventions, died at the scene.

This tragedy at Dubare Elephant Camp, which hosts thousands of tourists annually and offers close interaction with elephants, has reopened discussions on safety measures in the region.
