In the case filed in connection with the incident where Doctor İrem Sarıkaya was assaulted in the emergency room of a state hospital in Gaziemir district of Izmir, the defendant Yağmur A., who was tried without detention, was sentenced to a total of 137,200 lira in judicial fines for the crimes of injuring, insulting, and threatening the doctor, to be paid in 24 equal installments. As for the other defendant, Sinem C., she was sentenced to a discounted 530 days of judicial fines for the crime of 'insult' and a discounted 11 months and 7 days of imprisonment for the crime of 'threat', with the announcement of the verdict being postponed.

A dispute broke out between Dr. İrem Sarıkaya, a second-year physician working at the emergency department of Nevvar Salih İşgören State Hospital in the Gaziemir district of İzmir, and Sinem C. (23) and Yağmur A., who had come to the hospital.

HAIR PULLED OUT, ASSAULTED

After the doctor issued a 'code white' notification, the two individuals left the hospital. A short while later, when the two returned to the hospital to collect their test results, another argument erupted between the parties. Dr. İrem Sarıkaya, whose hair was pulled out, was assaulted. Police arriving at the hospital took Sinem C. and Yağmur A. into custody. Following their processing at the police station, they were referred to the courthouse, where Yağmur A. was arrested, and Sinem C. was released under judicial supervision.

CAUGHT ON CAMERA

Additionally, security camera footage of the moments when Dr. Sarıkaya was assaulted emerged. The footage includes scenes of the suspects waiting in front of the hospital's emergency entrance, Sarıkaya arriving shortly after, an argument breaking out between the parties, hospital police and security guards intervening in the escalating fight, and during this, Yağmur A. pulling and tearing out Sarıkaya's hair, then knocking her to the ground. The recordings also show Yağmur A. being removed from Dr. Sarıkaya with the intervention of healthcare workers and security personnel.

RELEASE AT FIRST HEARING

Following the incident, the investigation was completed. A lawsuit was filed against Yağmur A. for 'simple assault, insult, and threats against a female healthcare worker', and against Sinem C. for 'public insult and threats against a healthcare worker'. The trials of Yağmur A. and Sinem C. began at the İzmir 29th Criminal Court of First Instance. At the first hearing, the defendants denied the charges against them. Yağmur A. was released, and Sinem C.'s judicial supervision condition was also lifted.

VERDICT REACHED

A verdict was reached at a recent hearing at the İzmir 29th Criminal Court of First Instance. Defendant Yağmur A. was sentenced to a judicial fine of 270 days for the simple assault of the doctor, but due to the crime being committed against a public official and healthcare personnel, the sentence was converted to a fine of 607 days. As Yağmur A. had no prior criminal record, her sentence was reduced to 505 days of judicial fine, equivalent to 50,500 lira. For the offense of 'insult against the doctor', with a reduction, the defendant was sentenced to 530 days of judicial fine, converted to a fine of 53,000 lira.

TO PAY IN 24 INSTALLMENTS

Defendant Yağmur A. was sentenced to 13 months and 15 days in prison for the crime of 'threats against the doctor', which, after a reduction, was brought down to 11 months and 7 days in prison, and subsequently converted to a judicial fine of 33,700 lira. The judge ruled that all fines be paid in 24 installments.

The other non-custodial defendant, Sinem C., received a judicial fine of 530 days with a reduction for insulting the doctor and a prison sentence of 11 months and 7 days with a reduction for threatening the doctor, with both rulings temporarily suspended.
