While firefighting efforts continue in the forest fire that broke out in the Marmaris district of Muğla, water tenders and teams are being dispatched to the area, which is inaccessible by land, via landing craft. Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, stating that the goal is to bring the fire under control as soon as possible, said, 'The intensity of the fire has decreased in three parts; we aim to bring it under control with our night-vision aerial vehicles, hopefully.'
Efforts to bring under control the forest fire that broke out around 17:45 in Kabakargı Bay, Yalancıboğaz area of Muğla's Marmaris district continue unabated.
WATER TENDERS DISPATCHED TO THE REGION WITH LANDING SHIPS Water tenders and firefighting teams are being transported to the fire zone with landing ships, as land access to the area is not possible.
INTERVENTION FROM AIR AND LAND In the fire, which has been responded to with a total of 217 personnel, 7 aircraft, 16 helicopters, and 82 land units since the initial outbreak, 3 night-vision helicopters dispatched to the region as darkness fell are also continuing aerial extinguishing efforts.
GOVERNOR AKBIYIK: THE TERRAIN WHERE THE FIRE STARTED IS STEEP, UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVE NO LAND ACCESS Muğla Governor İdris Akbıyık, who came to the region and closely followed the firefighting efforts, made statements about the latest situation.
Stating that the fire's intensity has been reduced at three points, Governor Akbıyık said, "Today around 17:45, we received a forest fire report in the Adaköy area of our Marmaris district, and within 10 minutes our Regional Directorate of Forestry began intervention with its air assets. The terrain where the fire started is steep; unfortunately, we have no land access. Therefore, we intervened predominantly from the sea and air. However, our road-opening efforts on land are ongoing. Our intervention continues with a total of 217 personnel, 7 aircraft, 16 helicopters, and a total of 82 land units. During this intervention, we also benefited from both the landing ships and helicopters of our Ministry of National Defense's Aksaz Naval Base Command."
"THE FIRE'S INTENSITY HAS DROPPED IN THREE SECTIONS, ONE SECTION CONTINUES" Stating that the landing ships transported water tenders and forest firefighting personnel to the fire zone, Governor Akbıyık said, "Additionally, our Coast Guard boats are both transporting our personnel to the fire area and trying to intervene with their high-capacity water-discharging vessels. Meanwhile, within the framework of the Turkey Disaster Response Plan, our relevant institutions in Muğla, under the chairmanship of our Governorship, are providing the necessary support in a coordinated manner. The fire's intensity has dropped in three sections, while one section continues. We aim to bring this under control and reduce its intensity, hopefully with our night-vision air assets and helicopters; our 3 helicopters are currently working. There is some wind, and the terrain is very steep. This makes our job somewhat difficult, but we are trying to bring the fire under control as soon as possible by using all the assets and potential of all our institutions from the sea—our Regional Directorate of Forestry, AFAD, Muğla Metropolitan Municipality, our Aksaz Naval Base Command, our Ministry of Defense, and our Coast Guard Command.
