Organized Affairs: Karun's Treasure, an eight-episode series that met viewers on the Netflix platform on October 16, caused a huge wave of reaction on social media after its release. Yılmaz Erdoğan, who brought the series' phenomenal character Asım Noyan back to life and directed the project, became the focus of criticism due to the "Kam drum" scene in the series.
THAT SCENE CAUSED AN UPROAR ON SOCIAL MEDIA
The detail that sparked the controversy was the content of the scene. The depiction of the Kam drum, considered sacred in Turkish and Central Asian traditions and belonging to shamanism culture, in the hands of groups engaged in drug trafficking in the series drew a harsh reaction from social media users. Users stating that disrespect had been shown to Turkish culture poured criticism on Yılmaz Erdoğan and the production team.
HIS ACCOUNT WAS CLOSED AFTER THE GROWING BACKLASH
Following the avalanche of reactions and public discomfort, the X (Twitter) account of the master actor and director Yılmaz Erdoğan was suspended. There has not yet been an official statement as to whether the account was closed due to platform rules following user complaints or was subjected to a temporary restriction.
