In an accident caused by a passenger train derailing in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico, 13 people lost their lives and 98 were injured. Search and rescue operations related to the incident are ongoing.
It was reported that 13 people lost their lives and 98 were injured as a result of a passenger train derailing in the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca. According to a statement from the Mexican Navy Ministry (Semar), a passenger train carrying 241 passengers and 9 crew members derailed on a curve near the town of Nizanda in Oaxaca state.
13 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
In the accident where 13 people lost their lives and 98 were injured, the injured were transferred to healthcare facilities. For search and rescue operations, 360 naval personnel, 20 vehicles, 4 ground ambulances, 3 air ambulances, and one unmanned aerial vehicle were assigned. In Semar's statement, it was also stated, "Our institution reiterates its commitment to serve the safety and welfare of the Mexican people and will continue to work in coordination with the competent authorities to clarify the incident."
THE PRESIDENT THANKED THE RESCUE TEAMS
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also expressed her condolences on social media regarding the accident and instructed the Minister of the Navy and the Undersecretary for Human Rights of the Ministry of the Interior to go to the scene and closely assist the families. Sheinbaum thanked the Governor of Oaxaca and his team for their support, noting that the public would continue to be informed about developments.
