It has been revealed that 36 of the 78 people who lost their lives in the fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya were children. The fire affected at least 30 families who chose Kartalkaya for the semester break. In the tragedy, almost every family lost at least one child.

One of Turkey's important ski resorts, a fire broke out at the 12-story Grand Kartal Hotel in Bolu Kartalkaya on January 21. While 78 people lost their lives in the fire, 12 people were detained. Due to the semester break, families wanting to spend a winter holiday in Kartalkaya with their children lost their lives together. The tragedy affected at least 30 families.
36 OF THE DECEASED WERE CHILDREN
In the ongoing discussions about negligence and oversight regarding the fire, 36 children under the age of 18 lost their lives. Most of the deceased children were of primary or middle school age. Many schools published condolence messages following the deaths of their students.
A DENTIST COUPLE LOST THEIR LIVES WITH THEIR TWO CHILDREN
During the fire, Yasemin Boncuk Tüzgiray (41), a dentist from Bursa, her dentist husband Erhan Tüzgiray (48), and their children Defne Tüzgiray (11) and Demir Tüzgiray (8) lost their lives on the 7th floor of the hotel. It was learned that the family had come to Kartalkaya for the semester break and had informed their relatives that they would check out the next morning because they did not like the hotel.
THE HOTEL THEY VISITED EVERY YEAR BECAME A GRAVE FOR ONE FAMILY
Süleyman Dayı (51), his wife Seden Nurgül Dayı (48), and their daughters Ela (15) and Buse Dayı (12) lost their lives after being caught in the fire on the 11th floor of the hotel they went to for vacation from Istanbul. It was learned that the family visited the same hotel for vacation every year.
In the fire, Zehra Sena Gültekin, an employee of Turkish Airlines (THY), her husband, and their three children lost their lives. Nine other family members of Gültekin also lost their lives in the fire tragedy. Nedim Türkmen, a columnist for Sözcü newspaper, his wife Ayşe Neva Türkmen, and their two children lost their lives in the fire.
THE TRAGEDY SEPARATED A FAMILY
In the tragedy, Müge Suyolcu (41), who worked as a real estate consultant in Urla, İzmir, and her daughter Pera Suyolcu (10) lost their lives. Her husband Yavuz Suyolcu (42) and son Göksel Derin Suyolcu (12) managed to escape from the flames.
