In the investigation into the stabbing death of 16-year-old Kayra Ataman in a park in ANKARA, an indictment was issued against Elif Ç. (17), the ex-girlfriend of the suspect who committed suicide in prison, on the charge of 'aiding intentional homicide,' after it was assessed that she provided assistance by 'encouraging the crime.'
On June 9, in the Şeyh Şamil Neighborhood of Etimesgut district, T.E.E. (17) argued in a park with Kayra Ataman, whom he saw next to his ex-girlfriend Elif Ç. After the argument, T.E.E. went home and told his father what had happened. Thereupon, an argument broke out between his father Burak Ehlil, who went to the park, and Kayra Ataman. Kayra Ataman, who was stabbed by T.E.E., who followed his father and joined the fight, lost his life. In connection with the incident, T.E.E. and his father Burak Ehlil were taken into custody and arrested. T.E.E. committed suicide in prison on August 8. His ex-girlfriend Elif Ç., who is alleged to have called T.E.E. to the park, was released under judicial control conditions after her statement was taken as a suspect.
The investigation into Elif Ç. was completed, and an indictment was prepared by the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. In the forensic medical report included in the indictment, it was stated that there were a total of 4 sharp-instrument wounds on Kayra Ataman's body, 3 of them in the chest area, of a nature that would cause tearing in the heart, and 1 in the lumbar region of his back.
'TAKE WHATEVER WEAPON OR KNIFE YOU FIND AND COME'
In the indictment, statements were included that Elif Ç. called T.E.E. before the incident and asked him to come to the park and used expressions such as 'Take whatever weapon or knife you find and come.' It was conveyed that Elif Ç. said such words in her statement to the prosecutor's office, but in her later statement she stated that she did not use those expressions. It was stated that, in addition to the contradiction between the statements in the file, witness accounts and T.E.E.'s statement were also evaluated in the investigation. It was stated that in a petition submitted to the file by T.E.E.'s mother, she claimed that her son went to the scene upon Elif Ç.'s call and that he was told, 'They are fighting with your father, take whatever weapon or knife you find and come.'
In the indictment, it was requested that Elif Ç. be punished for the offense of 'aiding intentional homicide,' after it was assessed that she provided moral assistance to the act carried out by T.E.E. by 'encouraging the crime.' While the file against T.E.E. was dropped due to his death, the investigation against the father Burak Ehlil is ongoing.
MOTHER: 'LET THEM RECEIVE THE HIGHEST PENALTY'
Kayra Ataman's mother, Emine Ataman, said, 'For a mother, it is truly, truly very hard to bear. I cannot bear it. We die every day. I die every day. Our family has been devastated. We are all devastated. We died along with Kayra. We are no longer living either. First of all, let the father who started the fight receive the highest penalty he can get. The former lover who incited it—please, I ask for support from my dear prosecutor, my dear judge, from everyone. Please let her receive the highest penalties she can get. At least I want my son's blood not to remain on the ground. Let serious measures be taken now. Let changes be made to the laws. Let our children not die anymore. Every passing day, a mother's heart burns. Every passing day, a mother loses a child. Believe me, we raised those children with great difficulty. We brought them up under very difficult conditions. Let them not make us experience these pains.'
'SHE KEEPS CHANGING HER STATEMENT'
Mother Ataman, saying that Elif Ç. constantly changes her statement, said, 'First, before the prosecutor, she says, I don't remember the sentence take weapon, knife and come; I may have said it. Then, when she appears before the judge, she states that she did not say it. When the judge says, You said you don't remember, you may have said it, she says, No, I did not say it. But all the witness statements state that she said this word. There is also a statement given especially by the murderer's mother. There is a statement from the mother in particular, telling that when she went to visit her son, he said that Elif Ç said, take weapon, knife and come.'
