It was learned that the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an ex officio investigation against Serap Belovacıklı, the wife of New Party MP Ümit Özlale, who announced names in the fund investigation that were later found to be incorrect, due to her social media post, on charges of insulting a segment of the public under Article 216/2 of the Turkish Penal Code.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Sözcü TV presenter Serap Belovacıklı.
It was stated that the investigation was opened on the allegation of 'Incitement of the Public to Hatred and Enmity or Insult' under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code.
REASON: SOCIAL MEDIA POST
It was learned that the reason for the investigation launched against Belovacıklı was a social media post. In that post, Belovacıklı had used the expressions 'Keep crawling like a hungry dog, all of you. They are doing even too little to you. Die of hunger, let them live it up with all your money, you herd of cattle.'
ABDÜLKADİR SELVİ HAD RAISED THE ISSUE
Belovacıklı's post had been brought to the agenda by Hürriyet columnist Abdulkadir Selvi. In his article today, Selvi wrote that Belovacıklı had contacted him and explained why she had made the post.
The relevant section from Selvi's article is as follows:
"In my article in which I addressed New Party member Ümit Özlale's unfounded fund allegations about Trade Minister Ömer Bolat and Family Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, I had criticized his wife, presenter Serap Belovacıklı, because of her post, 'Keep crawling like a dog, all of you. They are doing even too little to you. Die of hunger, let them live it up with all your money, you herd of cattle.' In the past, reminding those who insulted our people by calling them 'jerrycan-headed' and 'the man scratching his belly,' I said, 'Serap Belovacıklı surpassed them too.'
Serap Belovacıklı first sent me a statement. She said she had no intention of insulting the people. On the contrary, she stated that she was replying to a person named 'Ömer Okumuş' who had severely insulted her on X.
I told her that she had been subjected to criticism because she did not make a statement such as, 'I do not mean the people. I reacted to the immoral person who insulted me.' But I am sharing Serap Belovacıklı's statement, 'I did not mean the people. I reacted to the person who severely insulted me.' Meanwhile, I looked at the tweets of the person named Ömer Okumuş. He had insulted Serap Belovacıklı in a very vulgar and immoral manner. Disgraceful, absolutely disgraceful. He hurled the vilest curses."
WHO IS SERAP BELOVACIKLI?
Serap Belovacıklı is a Turkish journalist, television presenter, and news anchor born in Bursa in 1984. She is a graduate of Ankara University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Journalism. Throughout her career, she has worked as a reporter, editor, and presenter at many important media organizations such as Habertürk, Akşam, Posta, Haber Global, TV100, and Sözcü TV. She is married to politician Ümit Özlale.
