Despite the New Party leader Özgür Özel's announcement of support for the framework law proposal, different voting preferences emerged within the party. Özel stated that he and the party leadership would vote 'yes,' while also saying that deputies would vote by taking into account the sensitivities, expectations, and concerns of citizens in their electoral districts. Emphasizing that this does not mean 'freeing the group with a decision,' at least 21 New Party deputies announced they would vote 'no' on the proposal following Özel's statement.
The framework law proposal, discussed in the TBMM General Assembly and aimed at forming the legal infrastructure for the Terror-Free Turkey process, brought about differing vote preferences within the New Party group.
ÖZEL: DEPUTIES WILL DECIDE ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN PROVINCES
Chairman Özgür Özel announced in his speech in the General Assembly that he and the party leadership would vote "yes" to the proposal. However, Özel also stated that deputies should consider the sensitivities, expectations, and concerns in the provinces they represent.
Özel said, "Our deputies will also decide and vote according to what the people in the provinces where they were elected say." Stating that this approach does not mean the group is "free to decide," Özel wanted deputies to make decisions by taking into account the expectations of their own provinces and the social segments they represent.
