In the operation where 87 people, including Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, were detained, arrest warrants were issued for two individuals abroad. One of them is reported to be Merthan Açıl, a football player and former brother-in-law of Acun Ilıcalı. The other individual is said to be Emrah Bağdatlı, the assistant of İmamoğlu's press advisor, Murat Ongun.
The two separate investigations initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) President Ekrem İmamoğlu have made headlines. Within the scope of the City Reconciliation, a total of 106 people have been issued detention orders due to allegations of "aiding the PKK/KCK terrorist organization" and "establishing a criminal organization for profit" under Media A.Ş.
IMAMOĞLU AND MURAT ONGUN DETAINED
While 87 people, including IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu and his press advisor Murat Ongun, were detained, arrest warrants were issued for the remaining individuals by the prosecutor's office.
DETENTION ORDER FOR ILICALI'S FORMER BROTHER-IN-LAW
Two names that received detention orders within the scope of the investigation drew attention. One of them was football player Merthan Açıl, who is the former brother-in-law of Acun Ilıcalı. It was learned that Açıl, who is married to Kübra Açıl, the sister of Acun's ex-wife Şeyma Subaşı, has been receiving consecutive tenders from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality since 2019 through the advertising company he established. Açıl could not be detained as he was in England.
ONGUN'S ASSISTANT COULD NOT BE DETAINED DUE TO BEING ABROAD
On the other hand, Emrah Bağdatlı, who works at Media A.Ş., could not be detained as he was abroad. It was learned that Bağdatlı is Murat Ongun's assistant.
