EMPLOYMENT RATE WAS 49.5%
The number of employed individuals increased by 988,000 compared to the previous year, reaching 32 million 620 thousand in 2024, while the employment rate increased by 1.2 points to 49.5%. This rate was 66.9% for men and 32.5% for women.
LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION RATE WAS 54.2%
The labor force increased by 837,000 compared to the previous year, reaching 35 million 733 thousand in 2024, while the labor force participation rate increased by 0.9 points to 54.2%. The labor force participation rate was 72.0% for men and 36.8% for women.
UNEMPLOYMENT RATE AMONG YOUNG POPULATION WAS 16.3%
The unemployment rate among the young population aged 15-24 decreased by 1.1 points compared to the previous year, reaching 16.3% in 2024. The unemployment rate in this age group is estimated to be 13.1% for men and 22.3% for women.
57.9% OF EMPLOYMENT WAS IN THE SERVICE SECTOR
14.8% of the employed individuals were in agriculture, 20.7% in industry, 6.6% in construction, and 57.9% in the service sector. Compared to the previous year, the share of employment in the service and construction sectors increased by 0.3 points, while the share in the industrial sector decreased by 0.5 points, and the share in agriculture remained unchanged.
In 2024, 4 million 827 thousand people were employed in the agricultural sector, 6 million 746 thousand in the industrial sector, 2 million 162 thousand in the construction sector, and 18 million 886 thousand in the service sector. Compared to the previous year, the number of employed individuals increased by 132 thousand in agriculture, 35 thousand in industry, 165 thousand in construction, and 656 thousand in the service sector.
UNDERUTILIZED LABOR FORCE RATE WAS 26.7%
The rate of underutilized labor force, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential labor force, and unemployed individuals, increased by 3.9 points compared to the previous year, reaching 26.7% in 2024. The combined rate of time-related underemployment and unemployed individuals was 18.1%, while the combined rate of unemployed and potential labor force was 18.4%.
HAKKARİ HAD THE HIGHEST UNEMPLOYMENT RATE
The provinces with the lowest unemployment rates were Burdur and Kastamonu at 4.0%, while the province with the highest unemployment rate was Hakkari at 18.3%. The highest employment rate was recorded in Ardahan at 60.6%. The lowest employment rate was in Hakkari at 35.3%. The highest labor force participation rate was in Ardahan at 63.9%. The lowest labor force participation rate was in Siirt at 41.6%.
