Fatmanur Çelik, who claims to have been abused by a foundation manager, and her daughter H.İ.Ş. were found dead in Zeytinburnu, Istanbul, the night before last. While the investigation into the incident continues, the mother and daughter were laid to rest today in a ceremony. A brief tension arose during the funeral when the women did not allow the men to carry the coffins.

A funeral ceremony was held for Fatmanur Çelik, a mother who claimed to have been abused by a foundation manager, and her eight-year-old daughter. After the funeral prayer held at Ümraniye Hidayet Mosque at 1:40 PM, the mother and daughter were buried at Ihlamurkuyu Cemetery.

The ceremony was attended by Aylin Nazlıaka, the Chair of the CHP Family and Social Services Policy Board, Sera Kadıgil, the Spokesperson of TİP, Av. Müjde Tozbey, the President of the Association for Children and Women First, and the lawyers following the case. Officials from the Ministry of Family and Social Services and staff from the Family Social Support Program were also present at the funeral.

"WHERE IS JUSTICE?" SLOGANS WERE CHANTED

The crowd attending the funeral called for justice over the deaths of Fatmanur Çelik and her daughter. The slogan "Where is justice?" was frequently chanted during the ceremony. A woman attending the funeral expressed her reaction by saying, "Everyone should rebel, say stop. The monsters are walking around freely, a tiny child is lying there." Another woman expressed her concern with the words, "I have a granddaughter, I am afraid of how she will grow up in this country."

During the ceremony, some women did not allow a few men from Fatmanur Çelik's family to carry the coffins. The coffins of the mother and daughter were carried to the cemetery on the shoulders of women, accompanied by applause and the slogan "You will never walk alone."
