In the ongoing budget discussions in the Parliament, CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer made a striking speech while holding a potato at the podium.
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) continues to discuss the budgets of the Ministries of National Defense, Culture and Tourism, and Youth and Sports for the year 2025.
CAME TO THE PODIUM WITH POTATOES
During the discussions, CHP Niğde Deputy Ömer Fethi Gürer, speaking on behalf of his party, made a striking speech. Gürer, who came to the podium with two bags of potatoes weighing one kilogram each purchased from a market, drew attention to the problems faced by producers.
"THE FARMER CANNOT EARN MONEY FROM WHAT HE PRODUCES, THE CONSUMER IS BEING RIPPED OFF"
Gürer stated, "Yesterday I went, the price of potatoes is 32 lira in one market and 15 lira in another. Our farmer cannot find a buyer for the potatoes he produces for 6 lira at 3 lira in the warehouse. In other words, the farmer cannot earn money from what he produces, the consumer is being ripped off, and the government, which says every day that there are exorbitant prices, is watching this process. There are those who are profiting, but the producers are being destroyed."
