The second hearing of the case regarding the death of 21-year-old footballer Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı in Ümraniye was held. The second hearing was held in the case regarding the armed attack that resulted in the death of 21-year-old footballer Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı in the Ümraniye district of Istanbul. During the hearing at the Istanbul Anatolian Courthouse, witnesses were heard, and the defendants presented their defenses to the court panel. The court decided to await the expert report and to continue the detention of the arrested defendants Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu and Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu. The hearing was adjourned until October 7th, and after the decision, Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu fell ill and had a nervous breakdown.
THE INCIDENT BEGAN WITH A RECONCILIATION ATTEMPT
The incident occurred on March 19th in the Tatlısu neighborhood of Ümraniye. After rapper Vahap Canbay wanted to reunite with Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu, whom he had parted ways with some time ago, their mutual friend Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı stepped in. Through Kundakçı's effort to facilitate a meeting between the parties, Canbay and Kundakçı arrived at a meeting point to talk.
While the two were waiting in a car, another vehicle approached theirs. As a person got out of the car and opened fire with a gun, Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı was seriously injured. The young footballer was taken to the hospital by medical teams but succumbed to his injuries despite all interventions by doctors.
WITNESS DESCRIBED THE MOMENT OF THE INCIDENT
Witness Yalçınay Yıldız, who was heard in court, stated that he was friends with Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu and also produced for Vahap Canbay. Yıldız said they went to the studio on the day of the incident but were not allowed inside due to cleaning, and they decided to wait briefly upon seeing Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu's dog.
The witness explained that their goal was to bring the parties together to help them reconcile. He stated that after a while, a vehicle with flashing lights arrived at the scene. Yıldız said a person in white clothing got out of the vehicle and approached the car where Canbay was, then knocked on the window and warned Vahap Canbay not to be seen in that area again.
The witness expressed that when the same person tried to hit Canbay with the gun's handle, a gunshot was heard, and they could not immediately understand what had happened. After the gun fired, Yıldız said Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı started screaming, while Canbay tried to protect them, not directly intervening with the gun but attempting to defend himself with his elbow. He also alleged that after the incident, Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu quietly said to those nearby, "The gun went off," as he returned to his vehicle.
DEFENDANTS DENIED THE ALLEGATIONS
In his defense, arrested defendant Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu stated that there was no direct statement against him in the file and expressed deep regret over the incident. Kalaycıoğlu argued that Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu was not someone who would kill a person without reason and stated that he himself had not undertaken any initiative that would cause such an incident. Saying that he had supported his family by working since a young age, Kalaycıoğlu noted that he considered himself a victim of the incident and requested his release.
Arrested defendant Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu also stated that he was sorry about the incident. The defendant, claiming that the incident occurred beyond his control, requested release from the court.
TENSION IN THE COURTROOM
During the hearing, a verbal argument broke out between Zuhal Kalaycıoğlu, the mother of defendant Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu, and the family of the deceased Kubilay Kaan Kundakçı.
After Zuhal Kalaycıoğlu said, "Give me back my daughter," Kundakçı's mother and father reacted by saying, "What about my son? Who will bring my son back to us?" As the argument escalated, the presiding judge decided to remove both parties from the courtroom.
INTERIM DECISION FROM THE COURT
After the witness statements were completed, the court panel announced its interim decision, ruling to await the expert report in the file. The panel also decided to continue the judicial control measures regarding the defendants and to maintain the detention status of Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu and Alaattin Kadayıfçıoğlu.
The next hearing of the case was adjourned to October 7th for a decision. It was learned that after the hearing ended, Aleyna Kalaycıoğlu had a nervous breakdown.
