An investigation is being conducted into Thomas Markle, the father of American former actress and Prince Harry's wife Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, over allegations that he possessed images containing child sexual abuse in the Philippines. Meghan said that the distance between her and her father is to protect her children.
An investigation has been launched in the Philippines into images containing sexual abuse of children alleged to have been found in the former home of Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle. As the review of Markle, who denies the allegations, continues, Meghan explained the reason for the distance between her and her father and her decision not to allow him to contact her children: “To protect my children.”
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO THOMAS MARKLE
Philippine police are conducting an examination of images alleged to have been found in Thomas Markle’s former home in Cebu. The allegations are said to have come to light after Meghan Markle’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., contacted the authorities reporting that he had found suspicious materials among his father’s belongings. Authorities announced that forensic examination is continuing to determine the content of the materials.
Thomas Markle denied the allegations. Authorities state that no definitive conclusion should be reached before the investigation is completed.
MEGHAN MARKLE: I WANTED TO PROTECT MY CHILDREN
In her statement, Meghan Markle said she was deeply saddened by the allegations and concerned about children who may have been harmed. The Duchess explained the reason for the distance between her and her father and her decision not to allow her children, Archie and Lilibet, to contact him, in these words: “I hope it is now understandable that there was only one reason for the distance between my father and me and my choice not to allow him to contact our children: to protect my children.”
"THE RESULT OF THE INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE AWAITED"
Meghan also stated that she hopes justice will be served and that children’s safety will be a priority.
The Duchess said that a letter containing alarming allegations about her father was sent to the Metropolitan Police and the Royalty and Specialist Protection unit in the UK in 2019, and was later shared with her. Meghan, who stated that she had received assurances that the allegations in the letter were being investigated, said that the result of the investigation should be awaited.
