In Iran, the death sentences of three individuals convicted of participating in street protests and alleged links to Mossad have been carried out. While protests that began due to the economic crisis spread across the country, differing figures on the number of deaths and detentions continue to spark public debate.

Following the street protests in Iran in recent months, the death sentences of three individuals have been carried out. The Iranian judiciary claimed the convicts were linked to the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad.

"THEY PARTICIPATED IN VIOLENT ACTS"

In a statement from the judiciary reported by Iranian state television, it was alleged that Mehdi Resuli and Mohammad Reza Miri "participated in violent acts as Mossad elements" in the events that took place in Mashhad in January 2026 and were involved in the killing of a security officer.

The statement also noted that Ebrahim Davlatabadi, who was claimed to be one of the leaders of the events in the Tabarsi district of Mashhad, was sentenced to death for leading incidents that resulted in the deaths of security forces. The execution of the death sentences for the three individuals was announced to have been carried out this morning.

PROTESTS BEGAN WITH ECONOMIC CRISIS

Protests in Iran began on December 28, 2025, at the Tehran Grand Bazaar due to economic hardships and the devaluation of the local currency, quickly spreading across the country. Following the escalation of violence in the capital on January 8, the government restricted internet access.

DEATH TOLL DEBATE CONTINUES

Different figures regarding the number of people killed in the incidents stand out. US-based HRANA reported that 5,858 people died in the protests and over 41,000 were detained. Iranian official sources, on the other hand, announced that 3,117 people lost their lives.
