The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it struck the Panama-flagged US container ship MSC Sariska with a cruise missile in retaliation for a US attack on its vessels in the Sea of Oman. In an incident escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran, which described the ship as "American-Zionist property," declared it would respond more decisively to further attacks. No statement has yet been made regarding damage to the ship or the condition of its crew.
Tensions in the Middle East and the Strait of Hormuz have risen again due to mutual moves by the US and Iran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy announced that it struck a US commercial container ship with a cruise missile, escalating military tension in the region to a peak.
CRUISE MISSILE HITS "AMERICAN-ZIONIST GOODS" SHIP
In an official statement by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, it was reported that the US-owned, Panama-flagged container ship MSC Sariska (referred to as MSC Sariska V in some sources) was targeted with cruise missiles near the Strait of Hormuz. The IRGC described the targeted ship as "American-Zionist goods." No clear information has yet been shared about the extent of damage to the ship after the attack or the health status of the crew.
RETALIATION FOR US ATTACK
The IRGC Navy stated that this dangerous operation carried a cause-and-effect relationship. The statement noted that the missile attack was a "retaliation" for a US military attack on Iran's Lian Star ship in the Sea of Oman. The Iranian side also issued a clear warning that any future US aggression in the region would be met with a much more "determined and harsh response."
UKMTO HAD CONFIRMED THE ATTACK
Before this hot development claimed by Iran, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors maritime security in the region, had also published a report. The UKMTO reported to the international public that a commercial vessel was struck approximately 40 nautical miles southeast of the important port city of Umm Qasr in southern Iraq. With Iran's statement, it was confirmed that the struck vessel was the MSC Sariska.
