US officials believe Israel's intelligence that 'Iran will assassinate Trump' is not based on a concrete plan, and that the information is aimed at influencing Tehran's policy and repairing the Netanyahu-Trump relationship.

It has been reported that US officials believe Israeli-sourced intelligence suggesting Iran plans to assassinate US President Donald Trump aims to influence policy toward Tehran and repair the relationship between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Trump.

"NOT RELATED TO A CONCRETE PLAN"

According to a report by Israel's Channel 12 television, two senior US officials said the information provided by Israel regarding "Iran's plot to assassinate Trump" was "not related to a concrete and detailed plan."

The officials noted that the intelligence was merely "about a general discussion among Iranian officials on this matter" and "a single piece of information without additional verification."

The officials said the information provided by Israel was "useful in the context of general monitoring of threats" against Trump, but emphasized that US intelligence did not view it as a warning of "an intention to carry out an attack in the near future."

THEY PROVIDED SIMILAR INTELLIGENCE LAST YEAR

One official noted that Israel had also conveyed "several similar reports last year regarding rhetoric by Iranian or pro-Iranian elements advocating harm to Trump," and two senior US officials shared the view that "Israel conveyed this intelligence to influence Trump's policy on Iran and warm the recently strained Netanyahu-Trump relationship."

TRUMP HAD STRONGLY CRITICIZED NETANYAHU

The American press had reported that Israel shared intelligence claiming Iran was planning a new assassination plot against US President Donald Trump.

President Trump had strongly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu after the US-Iran agreement, particularly regarding his stance on Lebanon.

The Israeli press had suggested that Netanyahu would visit the US next week to meet with Trump.
