Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu, who gave a statement today due to two investigations opened against him, addresses the crowd waiting for him outside the courthouse.
The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, gave a statement as part of two separate investigations initiated against him due to his remarks about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek and the expert witness he claimed was involved in CHP cases over the past eight days. After his statement, İmamoğlu addressed those who came to support him.
Highlights from İmamoğlu's statements;
"Today, all political parties except the ruling party have come here to support us in establishing justice. The representative of 16 million should not have given such a statement; today's issue is the politicization of the judiciary and the result of a trap being set in Istanbul. The target is clear. We have been experiencing the highest level of judicial harassment in Istanbul for 4 months, but we will not back down.
The process that started in Esenyurt with the detention and imprisonment of our professor Ahmet Özer in the early hours of the morning, along with the unjust arrest of our brother Rıza Akpolat in Beşiktaş, continues as an effort to design the process through judicial means. Today, we are in a great spirit of solidarity. All our political parties are here. I know that the party leaders are also contributing to us. I express my heartfelt gratitude to each of them for the survival of the Republic of Turkey and the unity of our nation."
