SEIZURE ON CHP-RUN SEYHAN MUNICIPALITY Yesterday, an enforcement action was initiated against the Seyhan Municipality, led by Republican People's Party (CHP) member Oya Tekin, for not paying its debts to 5 contracting firms from the previous term. Enforcement officers who came to the municipality seized items such as chairs, tables, and sofas from Mayor Tekin's office and loaded them onto a truck.
MAYOR OYA TEKİN: SOMETIMES 3 SEIZURES A DAY During a press conference held in front of the municipality today at noon, Seyhan Municipality Mayor Oya Tekin stated, "The 2-3 chairs taken from the office yesterday cannot pay off a debt exceeding 2 billion lira. The aim here is to render us incapable of working. A symbolic seizure was carried out yesterday. This was not a surprise for us. We knew the result would come to this. For the past 9 months, seizures have been coming to this municipality every day. Sometimes 1 a day, sometimes 3 a day. When we took office on April 1, we learned about this indebted structure. We are announcing this situation at the end of 9 months. When we arrived on April 1, we had a debt of 2 billion 467 million lira," she expressed.
Seyhan Municipality Mayor Oya Tekin "THEY DISTRIBUTED UN AID PACKAGES AS ELECTION AID" Speaking about the previous mayor Akif Kemal Akay, who switched from CHP to İYİ Party in the municipal elections, Oya Tekin later said: "We faced a management that used all the municipality's resources in the elections and went so far as to remove the labels from the aid boxes received from the United Nations and distribute them as election aid. An investigation is currently ongoing at the prosecutor's office. While this debt exists, austerity measures were implemented, and then deductions began for tax and social security debts. We got stuck. Additionally, a collective bargaining agreement was made before the elections. In the collective bargaining agreement, there were increases in base wages of up to 140%, which should not have happened at all. With these increases, financial discipline and balance have been completely disrupted. We are not enemies of workers and laborers."
Moreover, Mayor Oya Tekin added that they would never give up working. The meeting was attended by CHP Provincial Chairman Anıl Tanburoğlu, Seyhan District Chairman Ramazan Atikaslan, Çukurova Mayor Emrah Kozay, Yüreğir Mayor Ali Demirçalı, party members, and citizens.
