During the drilling works carried out as part of the metro project in the Kartepe district of Kocaeli, gas that was released has been burning for 8 days. Although the flames in the area that was sealed with concrete are no longer visible, the effects of the burning continue.
On March 2nd, during the drilling work for the metro project conducted on the side road of the D-100 highway in Dumlupınar Neighborhood, gas was released from a depth of 45 meters. The company employees who noticed the gas informed AFAD, the fire department, and officials from the gas distribution company.
COVERED WITH CONCRETE
The teams taking samples ignited the gas to prevent it from spreading uncontrollably and causing any explosions. The gas, which has been burning for days, was occasionally extinguished by the wind. To prevent this, the teams recently covered the area where the gas was released with concrete.
BURNING FOR 8 DAYS
The gas that was released during the drilling work has been continuing to burn for 8 days. Although the flames have become invisible, the gas is still being released.
FLAMES HAVE DECREASED
While the teams continue to wait in the area where the burning has been controlled for 7 days, it has been observed that the flames have decreased compared to previous days and are starting to lose their effect.
