A shocking murder trial is taking place in Manchester. 42-year-old Marcin Majerkiewicz is accused of killing his 67-year-old partner, Stuart Everett, and dismembering his body into 27 pieces.
During the hearing at Manchester Crown Court, prosecutor Jason Pitter explained that Everett's dismembered body was discarded in different areas of England. The victim's lower torso and legs were found on April 4 of last year in a nature reserve in Salford.
The incident occurred at the end of March last year, following an argument between the two men. Allegedly, after killing his roommate Everett, Majerkiewicz dismembered the body and distributed the parts to six different locations.
Even more astonishing was the fact that the defendant continued to use the victim's mobile phone and identity. The prosecutor noted that messages were sent to family members from Everett's phone even after his death. The victim's nephew received a birthday message, but the expressions used did not match his uncle's characteristic way of speaking.
"The messages were calculated to create the impression that Stuart was still alive," the prosecutor said.
When police arrested Majerkiewicz on April 25, he was found with Everett's mobile phone and bank cards. The defendant showed fake messages claiming that the victim was in Derby and had suffered a stroke.
Investigators identified a man carrying a heavy bag in a camera footage days after the murder, who later went to the area where the body parts were found. The prosecution claims that this person was Majerkiewicz and that he was carrying body parts in the bag.
The defendant denies the murder charge. The trial is ongoing.
