It was announced that Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir, daughter of former Turkish Red Crescent President Kerem Kınık, has been in prison for some time. Her 2-year and 6-month prison sentence for causing the death of 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki in an accident was finalized by the Istanbul Anatolia 8th Heavy Criminal Court. In a statement made on his social media account, Kerem Kınık said, "My daughter has been in prison for some time to serve her sentence handed down by the court where she was tried for the accident she was involved in."
The ruling court, Istanbul Anatolian 8th High Criminal Court, sentenced Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir to 4 years and 2 months in prison on May 26, 2025, and confiscated her driver's license for 2 years, despite causing the death of 17-year-old Batın Barlasçeki and injuring 3 people, with not a single day of pre-trial detention. After some complaints were withdrawn and the initial decision was overturned on appeal, the same court imposed a 2-year and 6-month prison sentence on December 18, 2025, maintained Kınık's travel ban abroad, and reduced the license confiscation period to 1 year.
The decision was appealed to the Istanbul Regional Court of Justice 19th Criminal Chamber by both Kınık's lawyer and Hasret Doğan's lawyer Uysal Uğurlu, the mother of Batın Barlasçeki. However, during this process, Hasret Doğan withdrew her complaint, stating that her material and moral losses had been compensated.
APPEAL OBJECTIONS REJECTED, KINIK'S CONVICTION UPHELD
The 19th Criminal Chamber rejected the appeal applications. It upheld the decision regarding Kınık's 2-year and 6-month prison sentence and the 1-year license confiscation.
EXECUTION PROCESS BEGUN
Regarding the finalized decision on March 2, 2025, the first-instance court also initiated the execution process. The court sent two separate letters to the prosecutor's office for the execution of the 2-year and 6-month prison sentence for Zehra Kınık Demir and the revocation of her driver's license for one year. It is noted that the Execution Prosecutor's Office sent a notification to Zehra Kınık Demir asking her to surrender within a given period.
KEREM KINIK: MY DAUGHTER IS IN PRISON
Father Kerem Kınık announced on his social media account today that his daughter is in prison. The statement did not include information about when, which prison Kınık entered, or how long she will stay. The statement is as follows:
"My dear daughter Fatıma Zehra Kınık Demir has been in prison for a while to serve her sentence given by the court where she was tried for the accident she was involved in. I felt the need to share this information because I see that we are still being targeted in some media outlets with distorted and false news about my daughter and our family. In this case, where there is no complainant, both my daughter and the motorcycle driver were sentenced, and the Forensic Medicine Traffic Department found both drivers and our deceased young person at fault. May God have mercy on our lost child, grant patience to the grieving family, and protect everyone from visible and invisible accidents."
