The Ministry of National Education announced that education will be suspended for one day on Friday, June 12, in all school levels to ensure complete preparation for the LGS exam to be held on June 13. This decision only covers educational institutions; June 12 will not be considered an official holiday, and working hours will continue as normal in public institutions and the private sector.

The Ministry of National Education (MEB) announced that education will be suspended for one day on Friday, June 12, 2026, at all school levels in order to complete preparations for the central exam under the High School Transition System (LGS).

WHY WILL SCHOOLS BE CLOSED ON JUNE 12?

According to the statement made by the Ministry of National Education, educational activities will be suspended for one day to ensure that preparations at exam centers are fully completed before the LGS exam to be held on Sunday, June 13, 2026.

Classes will not be held on Friday, June 12, to create seating plans, prepare optical answer sheets, check technical equipment, and complete physical arrangements at the schools and institutions where the exam will take place.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE MEB

The statement made by the Ministry included the following expressions:

"In order to ensure that our students are not affected by the pre-exam processes, formal education will be suspended for 1 day in formal education institutions on Friday, June 12, 2026, to complete the physical preparations at the schools and institutions where the exam will be held, and teachers will be considered on administrative leave for 1 day on this date."

JUNE 12 WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED AN OFFICIAL HOLIDAY

Friday, June 12, 2026, is not included as an official holiday. The decision covers only educational institutions. Therefore, the work schedule will continue normally in public institutions, private sector workplaces, and other official organizations.

THE REASON FOR THE DECISION IS LGS PREPARATIONS

The main purpose of the MEB's decision is to ensure that the LGS, which will be attended by millions of students, is carried out smoothly. Schools will be vacated for one day to complete preparations at exam centers and ensure exam security.

The LGS exam, originally planned for Sunday, June 14, had been moved to Saturday, June 13, to prevent students from being affected by potential celebrations, high noise, and traffic density following the match of our A National Football Team against the Australian national team on the same date at 07:00 Turkey time according to the 2026 FIFA World Cup match schedule.

Nutrition Package

"NUTRITION PACKAGE" WILL BE DISTRIBUTED TO STUDENTS

In the central exam under the High School Transition System (LGS), a "nutrition package" will be distributed to students. For the first time this year, during the break between the verbal and numerical sessions, a nutrition package consisting of dried fruit oat bars, walnuts, raisins, and water will be distributed to students whose parents have given consent, to meet nutritional needs, reduce exam anxiety, and increase motivation.

924,191 students, for whom requests were made by their parents via the e-School system during the central exam application, will benefit from the nutrition package between the two exam sessions. In this context, approximately 91% of the 1,022,658 students who will take the exam domestically and abroad will receive a nutrition package.

SUMMER VACATION WILL BEGIN ON JUNE 26

The date when the academic year will end for students was announced as June 26, 2026. After report cards are distributed, students will begin their summer vacation.
