The 'yayla muzu', known in the local language as ışgın or uçkun, which naturally grows in the high-altitude plateaus of the Eastern Anatolia region, has been put on sale for prices ranging from 100 to 300 lira. The uçkun collected from the mountains is described in a study conducted in the USA as a potential new treatment for cancer.
The research conducted by Atlanta University has led to the emergence of the plant known as "ışkın" as a new potential treatment for cancer, and its fame has spread all the way to America. The height of the ışkın herb, which is used by the local people not only for cancer but also for many other diseases, varies between approximately 40 centimeters and 150 centimeters.
IT IS GOOD FOR INDIGESTION
Rich in vitamin C, ışkın is also abundant in vitamins A, B1, B2, E, and K, and it is said to be beneficial for nausea and indigestion when consumed fresh. Additionally, it is noted to have therapeutic effects against flu and febrile diseases.
"IT HAS STARTED TO BE USED FOR TREATMENT PURPOSES"
Street vendor İsa Kurt, who has been collecting and selling ışkın in the high parts of the mountains in Erzincan for about 15-20 years, stated, "Right now, we sell it for 100 to 300 TL per bundle. According to recent research, it has been scientifically proven to be beneficial for cancer and many other diseases, and the demand has significantly increased. Many of our customers come and take it to the western provinces. Most have started using it for treatment. In the coming days, as the weather warms up, we will start bringing more. Especially, the demand for the root of ışkın has also increased significantly. The price is currently a bit high. But it will drop to reasonable prices over time," he said.
