Saymaz wrote, "While I was on my way for a weekend holiday with my wife, child, and friends, I learned that a travel ban had been imposed on me. My passport has been confiscated." He added, "If I were to escape... I wouldn't have traveled abroad five times in the last 1.5 months and returned. I wouldn't have come back on March 12 from Germany, knowing that there were investigations against me."

Journalist Saymaz also stated, "Whenever I was called to give a statement by the prosecutor's office, I went running. Last Thursday, I was at Bakırköy Courthouse due to three different investigations. My only crime is journalism... I have no intention of going anywhere else from Turkey. I see what has been done as an intimidation against critical journalism and I reject it."
