KADEM highlighted the murders of Bahar Aksu and Başak Gürkan Aslan in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse. Stating that "the delay of justice deepens the pain experienced," KADEM demanded the implementation of deterrent penalties. They emphasized that they will follow both cases until the end.
KADEM (Women and Democracy Foundation) held a press conference in front of the Çağlayan Courthouse, where the trial of the Bahar Aksu murder case is being held. The statement emphasized the vital importance of timely justice for femicides and the implementation of deterrent penalties.
"A MURDER DESIGNED IN EVERY SENSE"
In KADEM's statement, the following expressions were included: "Today, we are gathered here, unfortunately, once again to seek justice after the murder of a woman in the middle of the street. Bahar Aksu was only 34 years old. She had separated from her husband due to domestic violence and had lived with her mother in the village for 2 years without leaving the house out of fear of being killed.
On May 5, while walking on the street, she was forcibly attempted to be put into a vehicle by her ex-husband Rüstem Elibol and 3 of his friends. When Bahar resisted, Rüstem Elibol pulled out his gun and fired multiple times. While Bahar Aksu lost her life at the scene, Rüstem Elibol and his 3 friends were taken into custody and arrested. This horrific incident, which was also captured by security cameras, is a murder that has been fully designed, despite the perpetrator's claims to the contrary. The perpetrator and his accomplices must be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
"THE DELAY OF JUSTICE DEEPENS THE PAIN"
Just yesterday in Ankara, Başak Gürkan Aslan was brutally murdered by her husband and father-in-law in front of her 5-year-old daughter. Therefore, the delay of justice and the failure to implement deterrent penalties further deepens the pain experienced.
"WE WILL FOLLOW THIS UNTIL THE END"
As KADEM's volunteer lawyers, we are here to defend women's right to life, ensure that perpetrators receive the punishments they deserve, make violence visible, and ensure justice is served. We will follow the cases of Bahar Aksu and Başak Gürkan Aslan until the end.
"OUR GOAL IS TO BUILD A JUST WORLD WITH THE DIGNITY OF WOMEN"
We would also like to remind that defending women's right to life is not only the responsibility of lawyers but of the entire society. Our goal is to build a just world where every woman lives with dignity and security. We will continue to work for this.
