CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu issued a message on the 10th anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt. In his message, Kılıçdaroğlu also listed 12 proposals to preserve the democratic ground and protect republican values.
"A HISTORICAL TURNING POINT" In a message shared on his social media account, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said, "July 15 is a historical turning point that showed us, through bitter experience, the great danger faced by the Republic of Turkey, the seriousness of the imperialist threat seeking to eliminate our democracy and constitutional order, and that our brotherhood is above all else. The damages inflicted on our country by parallel structures that corrupt the state and political institutions from within, destroying merit and linking loyalty to illegal factions, are the greatest threat to our independence. The guarantee of our unitary state structure is our shared consciousness of destiny and an uncompromising democracy. Uplifting our state with reason, merit, and justice; walking toward the future fraternally under a single flag is the fundamental duty of us all. I thank every citizen who stood by our democracy and national unity against the coup attempt by parallel structures under the command of imperialism, and I commemorate our July 15 martyrs with mercy, gratitude, and respect. May their souls be at peace, and may their abode be paradise."
12-ITEM CALL FOR DEMOCRACY AND THE REPUBLIC In his post, Kılıçdaroğlu listed 12 proposals to preserve the democratic ground and protect republican values.
Kılıçdaroğlu emphasized the need to impose a ban on politics in barracks, places of worship, and courthouses; establish an independent and impartial judiciary; protect the unitary and secular state structure; ensure merit in the state; embrace the founding values of the Republic; strengthen political consensus and brotherhood; transition to a strong parliamentary system; protect an independent and free media; build an inquiring education system; develop a culture of self-criticism; address the grievances of those victimized by conspiracies; and not deviate from the rule of law in combating coup plotters.
"OUR COMMON RESPONSIBILITY" Kılıçdaroğlu also said, "The greatest truth July 15 taught us is this: The state cannot be handed over to any structure, community, group, or clique. The owner of the state is the nation; the embodiment of the nation's will is the Gazi Parliament. With this awareness, walking toward the future by remaining within the law, expanding democracy, strengthening our Republic, and protecting our brotherhood is our common responsibility."
