Ukrainian President Zelensky announced that Russia launched a drone attack on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied Zelensky's statement, saying, "The claim that we attacked Chernobyl is a fabrication by Kiev."
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that a Russian drone attack caused significant damage to the radiation section of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant during the night. It was reported that the structure protecting the 4th reactor of the plant suffered major damage. As images of Chernobyl being hit emerged, the video showed the roof of the plant suddenly catching fire and a large hole being created.
NO INCREASE IN RADIATION LEVELS
In the statement, which noted that the damage was serious according to initial assessments, it was mentioned that the structure was damaged after the attack, but the fire was extinguished and no increase in radiation levels was detected.
KREMLIN: KIEV'S FABRICATION
In response to Zelensky's statement that a drone attack was carried out by Russia on the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the Kremlin responded. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Zelensky's statement was not true, saying, "It is out of the question for Russia to carry out attacks on any nuclear infrastructure facility or nuclear power infrastructure. Therefore, regardless of what happens, such claims do not align with reality. We are most likely talking about another fabrication and provocation from Kiev. This is something the Kiev regime loves and does not refrain from doing," he said.
"THEY WILL DO EVERYTHING TO DISRUPT THE CURRENT PROCESS"
Peskov emphasized that such claims are attempts to disrupt the potential negotiation process with Ukraine, stating, "There will certainly be individuals who continue to oppose attempts to initiate a negotiation process deep within the Kiev regime. This is quite evident. It is extremely clear that these people will do everything to disrupt the current process."
