Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel was suspended from duty by the decision of the Ministry of Interior following his arrest in connection with an investigation into allegations of "receiving bribes."
The Ministry of Interior announced that Ömer Günel, the Mayor of Kuşadası in Aydın, has been suspended from duty. It was stated that the decision was made within the scope of an investigation conducted on the charge of "receiving bribes."
According to the ministry's statement, Ömer Günel was arrested by the decision of the Istanbul 9th Peace Criminal Court dated March 16, 2026, and numbered 2026/276.
INTERIM MEASURE APPLIED
The statement expressed that Günel was suspended from duty as an interim measure in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
