A landslide occurred during the construction work at the site next to the 6-story building in the Mareşal Çakmak neighborhood of Güngören, Istanbul.

THE KINDERGARTEN'S GARDEN COLLAPSED

The back garden area of the ground floor belonging to a private kindergarten collapsed due to the landslide. Cracks appeared in the 6-story building as a result of the collapse. Police and municipal teams were dispatched to the street upon notification. After the teams' work, no evacuation was carried out in the 6-story building. The teams continue their work on the matter.

REACTION FROM CITIZENS

Fatih Gencal, a resident of the building, stated, "The incident happened after the morning call to prayer. In the morning, municipal teams and police came. It felt like an earthquake. My father went downstairs. They explained what they would do. Then the building opened up. This building has 10 apartments. Most people are tenants; I am the only homeowner. Do they care if a citizen dies? They don't even come to check. They said what they would do and then all left. It will rain. After it rains, who will take responsibility for this? How many people live here? Is human life that cheap? When something happens to me, who will answer? I have my mother, father, and siblings. There are children here. This is a children's nursery," he said.

"MY WIFE WOKE ME UP SAYING THERE'S AN EARTHQUAKE"

Müjde Çiçek, another resident of the building, said regarding the incident, "We woke up in the morning. My wife woke me up saying, 'There's an earthquake.' I ran to the children. When we looked, we saw that the wall had collapsed. We couldn't go downstairs. In the morning, the municipal teams came. They told us that a wall would be built here. They just poured some cement and left. When I asked when this place would be fixed, they said, 'We will do it. We have a 2-hour job.' Right now, we are scared.

I have children. We want to go to my mother-in-law's house. We can't sleep here. My window frames have come off. The bottom part of my balcony is cracked. It was time for suhoor. We had woken up for suhoor. There is a kindergarten below. What would happen if those children were in the kindergarten during the day? They disregard so many lives. I don't know what they will do. They came for inspection. They didn't even enter the building. They didn't issue an evacuation order. The contractor came and looked. He said, 'There’s nothing here. We will build a wall here. Nothing will happen. Your building is solid.' It is really not solid," she expressed.
