In Antalya, the defendant, whose claim that his wife was cheating on him was refuted by a DNA report, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for 'intentional killing of a spouse and a woman' after shooting and killing his wife, the mother of six children, out of jealousy.

The incident occurred on November 27, 2024, at around 15:50, on the 3rd floor of an apartment building in a complex located on 2238th Street, Güzeloba Neighborhood, Muratpaşa district.

Abdullah Poyraz (57) went to the police station and said that he shot his wife, Hale Akbaş Poyraz (39), during an argument, left the gun at home, left the residence, and wanted to surrender. Police and 112 Emergency Health teams were dispatched to the given address. During the checks by the teams, it was determined that Hale Akbaş Poyraz had lost her life. Accordingly, teams from the Public Order Branch Directorate's Homicide Bureau Office and Crime Scene Investigation were dispatched to the address. Meanwhile, when Hale Akbaş Poyraz's daughter arrived home, she was not allowed into the residence by the teams. The little girl, wanting to find out what happened to her mother, cried, saying, "Show me my mother once, go see if something happened to my mother."

While those around made great efforts to calm the little girl, a health team was requested to the scene as a precaution. The little girl, telling the health teams who arrived at the scene, "Don't check on me, go check on my mother," was taken into the ambulance. Following the work of the prosecutor's office and crime scene investigation teams, Hale Akbaş Poyraz's lifeless body was taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for an autopsy. It was learned that Poyraz's daughter arrived home shortly after the incident, and when no one answered the door, she called Abdullah Poyraz, and the defendant told her, "I'm downtown." It was also noted that in his initial statement to the police, the suspect said he carried out the act due to jealousy.

In line with the court's interim decision at the previous hearing, the report requested from the Forensic Medicine Institute Biology Department regarding the DNA profile obtained from vaginal swab samples taken from Hale Akbaş Poyraz reached the court. The report stated that the DNA profile obtained from the samples taken from the victim was determined to belong to the defendant Abdullah Poyraz. The public prosecutor, who had announced their opinion on the merits at the previous hearing, requested that the defendant be sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional killing of a spouse and a woman'.

HIS CALLOUS DEFENSE INFURIATED

When asked for his defense on the merits, Abdullah Poyraz stated that he repeated his written defense petition submitted to the court and said, "I do not accept the points against me in the Forensic Medicine Institute report. There have been intensely unfair behaviors towards me, especially my wife's infidelity. I am very sorry for the incident. I haven't been able to see my children for a long time. I want to take care of my family. I request my release in an appropriate manner. I request that the provisions in my favor be taken into account for me. The discretion belongs to the court."

After the defenses, the court panel announced its decision and ruled that Abdullah Poyraz be punished with aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'intentional killing of a spouse and a woman' against Hale Akbaş Poyraz. The court did not apply discretionary reduction, considering the defendant's behavior after the act and the deterrent effect the punishment should have. Poyraz was also sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison and a judicial fine of 100 days for carrying an unlicensed weapon.
