A 4.0 magnitude earthquake occurred today at 12:06 PM in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir. The depth of the earthquake was recorded at 10.19 kilometers.
After the 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10 in the Sındırgı district of Balıkesir, aftershocks continue to shake the area like a cradle. Most recently, a 4 magnitude earthquake occurred in the district at 12:06.
According to information on the website of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), a 4 magnitude tremor was recorded with its epicenter in the Sındırgı district. Kandilli measured the earthquake's magnitude as 3.9. It was determined that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10.19 kilometers.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The 6.1 magnitude earthquake that occurred on August 10 was centered in Sındırgı and was also felt in surrounding provinces such as Istanbul, Izmir, Manisa, Aydın, Uşak, Kütahya, Eskişehir, Sakarya, Yalova, and Tekirdağ. According to AFAD data, more than 10 buildings were destroyed in the earthquake, 29 people were injured, and an 81-year-old citizen lost their life despite being rescued from the rubble. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya stated that 12 of the collapsed buildings were abandoned, and no one was present in 4 of them at the time of the earthquake. Following the earthquake, there was a significant storm of aftershocks in the region. AFAD announced that more than 500 aftershocks were recorded following the main shock of 6.1, with 11 of them being 4.0 and above.
