WHAT HAPPENED?The family living in the rural Yanışlı neighborhood of Gülnar, Mersin, reported that their 3-year-old daughter Müslüme went missing while they were setting up a tent on November 10, 2021. The teams that started the operation found the lifeless body of the missing child in the rural area of the district on November 19, 2021. In the indictment prepared after the investigation, it was requested that Müslüme's grandfather Hasan Yağal, who was arrested, be charged with "intentional killing," "qualified sexual assault of a child," and "depriving a person of their liberty by using force, threat, and deception for sexual purposes." For the unarrested defendants, grandmother Ayşe Yağal, mother Selvi Yağal, and brother O. Yağal, a prison sentence was also requested for "harboring a criminal." It was claimed that Hasan Yağal committed "qualified sexual assault" against his daughter-in-law Selvi Yağal, and as a result of this assault, he also committed the crime of "sexual abuse of a child" against A. Yağal, who was determined to be born from his daughter-in-law. The additional indictment prepared was combined with the case file. The public prosecutor, in his opinion on the main case, decided to acquit the unarrested defendants, grandmother A. Yağal and brother O. Yağal, who were charged with "harboring a criminal," while deciding to punish mother S. Yağal.
