In China, a man held a wedding with his new wife on the lower floor of the same hotel while holding a 100th-day celebration for his baby with his ex-girlfriend on the upper floor. As the two events took place at the same time, the families came face to face at the hotel. While the argument between the parties quickly turned into a fight, hotel staff had to call the police. The images spread on social media caused a great stir, and what happened was like something out of a movie.
The incident that took place on October 9 in Liupanshui, a city in China's Guizhou province, became a national talking point. A man surnamed Wu's wedding and the 100th-day celebration of his baby born to his ex-girlfriend were held on different floors of the same hotel.
While the man's wedding ceremony with his new wife was held on the lower floor of the hotel, the 100th-day celebration of his child with his ex-girlfriend Lin was held on the upper floor. It was learned that the two events were reserved separately by different families.
WHEN THE FAMILIES MET, CHAOS BROKE OUT
When it was understood that the two celebrations were being held in the same building, an argument broke out between the families and relatives of the parties. The tension, which quickly escalated, turned into a physical brawl.
In footage circulating on social media, a woman carrying a baby in her arms was seen trying to go up the stairs, but was blocked by a group of men who had linked arms.
As shouting rose while the woman and those with her tried to pass, the moments when the parties moved away after a person who came to the scene intervened were captured on camera.
HOTEL STAFF CALLED THE POLICE
As the tension between the two families grew, hotel staff notified the police. Despite the brawl, it was stated that both the wedding and the baby's 100th-day celebration were completed, and the event fees were also paid. As footage of the incident spread rapidly on social media, users likened what happened to the plots of TV series.
AUTHORITIES' STATEMENT ON POLYGAMY
After the incident, the man's marital status also became a subject of discussion. Local authorities stated that Wu was officially married to the woman he held the wedding with, and that he had no marriage record with his ex-girlfriend, the mother of his baby.
Authorities stated that, in light of the available information, the incident did not by itself constitute the crime of polygamy, while also reporting that there were financial disputes between the parties. It has not yet been clarified why the two celebrations were organized on the same day and at the same hotel.
